The one where I make half of the human populate feel bad for having a Facebook? That one was fun to write. I even sent the link for it to my sister and friends from high school. Maybe they will stop bugging me about “keeping up” with the stupid thing. OK, so on to the next wonderful invention of my generation: Twitter.

Let me start off by saying I DO NOT CARE! When you post what you are doing at every moment of every day, I do not care. I don’t need to know what you are doing tonight or if you are excited about it. So keep it to yourself, OK?

Here is my biggest problem with Twitter. Last January I got into a pretty bad accident. I spun into a guard-rail on the highway going 70 mph. I called my sis to tell her I wouldn’t be home for awhile and that I wasn’t bringing home lunch anymore. (Side story: I had just stopped and picked us both up fast food burgers, fries, and drinks which ended up all over my car when I hit the guard rail.) What does she do? Post it to Facebook and Twitter. Within seconds of getting off the phone with her I had several texts from family and friends asking what I did and if I was OK. The ones from my grandma were the worst…

So yeah, stop telling the world what we don’t need to know. Chances are, NO ONE CARES and your tweets will not be read. If they are read, they won’t be received well. I don’t care, and you are narcissistic.

(For those of you wondering, yes I did have to make a twitter for my New Media Class. If you want to see the 2 posts I have made you can try to look for me. But I’m pretty sure I set myself unsearchable or something so you would be wasting your time. Yes I am a hypocrite. I say what I honestly think here and do the opposite just for a grade and a certificate that will look nice on my resume.)

Anti-Facebook

I am a 20 year old college student who has resisted Facebook for my whole life. Until recently. As a Public Relations major at Michigan State University, I decided it would be beneficial to take this New Media Drivers License class. The down side: I had to make a Facebook page.

I suppose you are wondering why I am so against Facebook, right? I have spent many years watching my friends and sister get sucked into the evil site. Facebook users spend hours on end absorbed in the “fascinating” status and photo updates. Honestly, I have never had much interest in what people are doing 24/7. Anyone who really wants to contact me has my cell phone number and can just text or call me if it is all that important.

To be perfectly honest, I think people who use Facebook regularly are either stalkers or self-centered. If you say you use Facebook to “keep in touch with old friends” then you’re stalking. If you’re the person who everyone is “keeping up with” then you’re the self-centered person who thinks everyone needs to know what you are doing at all times.

In conclusion: Facebook sucks! People who use Facebook are either creepy or narcissistic jerks (to use a nicer term). Congratulations American people, we have truly achieved something great with this evil virtual world. And we are all getting sucked into it, one-by-one with no chance of escape.

Now I bet you are wondering why I have a blog if I hate Facebook so much. What is a blog but an extension of Facebook and Twitter (which I also hate). Well once again, thanks NMDL class. If you want to know more, see other posts.
